How to Apply

In order to receive our services, there are personal documents you will need to bring with you when you apply.  To assist you in making the process as simple as possible, each step of the application process is described in a little more detail here. By being prepared in advance, you will avoid delays in being able to receive the help you are seeking. If you are prepared when you come in to apply, the intake process actually takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Simply follow the steps below and you will be on your way to finding the help you need.

1. Residency Verification

Clover Area Assistance Center is only able to assist individuals and families who live within the boundaries of the Clover School District (District #2).  This includes Bethany, Bethel, Bowling Green, Clover, Lake Wylie, and portions of Blacksburg and York. If you are not sure whether or not you live in the Clover School District, please use this link to the York County GIS Search. Follow the directions on the site to find out whether or not your school district is #2.

If you do not live within the boundaries of the Clover School District, please call 2-1-1 (United Way’s SC helpline) or go to our resources page.  Either resource will provide you with information on services available in your community. If you need guidance, feel free to call our office and we will be happy to direct you.

Residency Confirmation

If you are sure that you live within our service area, you will need to be able to verify your residency by providing the following documents:

  • A current utility or tax bill, in your name, that shows the same address at which you are currently living.
  • A valid picture ID for everyone in the household who is 18 years of age or older.  The address on the picture ID(s) should be the same as the address at which you are currently living. If the address does not match, the services you are able to receive may be limited until your ID address is corrected. Changes can be made online or by going to your local DMV.”

2. Identification

We define a “household” as everyone living at the same address, regardless of relationship or interest in seeking help from us.  Proof of identity for every individual living/staying at your address is required.  Please bring the following documents with you when applying for assistance.

  • A social security card for every member of your household.  This includes children and other adults in the home.
  • A photo ID for everyone in the household who is 18 years of age or older.  A photo ID is needed for proof of residency and for proof of identity.

3. Income

We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for everyone.  We know that all it takes is one crisis to turn even the most secure household upside down.  But we also know that we cannot help everyone.  Therefore, we have established Income Eligibility Guidelines that clearly define who we are able to assist.

To verify the income level and benefits in your household, several factors are calculated together to identify whether or not you meet Income Eligibility Guidelines.  You will need to have the following documents with you when you apply in order to qualify for assistance. Income documentation is required for every member of the household:

  • Proof of earned income (two most recent pay stubs, bank statement, or a formal letter from the employer)
  • Pension Documentation
  • Proof of Unemployment Compensation
  • Most recent award letter for Social Security, Disability, and/or SSI benefits
  • Most recent award letter(s) for SNAP, TANF, and/or WIC
  • Adult Student – Proof of school enrollment
  • Child Support Documentation/letter

If you have any questions regarding documentation, please call us.  Depending on circumstances, certain requirements may be temporarily waived.

Once you have located all your documentation, you may print out an application form to complete and bring with you when you apply, along with all qualifying documentation.

4. Apply in Person

Now that you have compiled the necessary documents to verify your address, identification, and income, you are ready to come to Clover Area Assistance Center (location and hours of operation) to begin the application process. If you have all the necessary documentation with you, the entire process usually takes less than 30 minutes. Once your eligibility has been confirmed, you will be eligible to receive most services immediately. (This excludes dental, which can have waiting periods of several months before space is available.)

You may download the application and complete it before coming to our offices.

As a client, you will be responsible for updating your account every six months in order to remain in good standing and continue to receive services.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us!
