“Time and money spent in helping people do more for themselves is far better than mere giving.” – Henry Ford
Our services and programs are designed to address basic urgent needs. Through food, financial assistance, health related services, and education, our goal is to not only alleviate immediate need, but also to help individuals and families bridge the gap between dependence and self-sufficiency.
Food Pantry
We operate as a Full Choice Pantry, meaning that those in need actually shop directly from the pantry shelves. Each person is assisted by a volunteer and given a list to shop with. This list is different depending on the number of people in a household. The larger the family, the larger the quantity of items they may select from each category.
Each year, we spend more money on direct financial assistance than any other service we provide. Most funds are restricted to only particular types of assistance, such as utilities or rent, while other funds may allow us to help with such things as heating fuels, transportation, prescriptions, daycare, temporary housing, or appliances. All financial assists are at our discretion based on available funds and severity of need.
It is through education that people have the greatest opportunity to make positive changes toward attaining self-sufficiency. Our volunteer instructors provide Living Basics Classes (LBC) utilizing a budgeting and finance curriculum that was created specifically for us. We also promote participation in Tri-District Adult Education and encourage job readiness training through SC Works.
