Financial Assistance

Our ability to provide financial assistance is dependent upon the availability of funds, much of which carry restrictions as to its use. Each year, we spend over $120,000 on direct financial assistance alone, generally for help with utility bills, rent, prescriptions, the purchase of heating fuels, transportation, and a variety of other basic needs costs.

Clover Area Assistance Center requires clients to make appointments in order to receive financial assistance.  Although there may be unforeseen circumstances that have dramatically affected a person’s ability to cover living costs, most financial needs can be planned for and are not unexpected.

Rent and Utility Assistance

Utility companies and landlords are always clear in advance as to when disconnection or eviction will occur.  In order to be considered for financial assistance, an appointment must be made no less than 5 working days from disconnect or eviction.  This is required so that the client can participate in the solution by working out agreements with the provider and/or pay a portion of the bill before assistance is given.  Obtaining an appointment does not guarantee that financial assistance will be provided.

Financial Assistance Requests

Each request for financial assistance is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The client must bring in all current documentation related to the request. We are only able to assist the person whose name appears on the paperwork.

As with all of our services, our goal is not to give a handout, but to give a helping hand. Although we fully understand the financial difficulties individuals and families regularly face, our mission is about helping people become less dependent on outside resources to meet their basic needs.
