CAAC’s ability to provide financial assistance is dependent upon the availability of funds, much of which carry restrictions as to its use. Each year, we spend thousands of dollars on financial assistance alone, generally for help with utility bills, the purchase of heating fuels, prescriptions, and adult education fees.
Each request for financial assistance is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. When helping to pay a portion of a bill, we are only able to assist the person whose name appears on the bill. Before we consider paying a portion of a utility bill, we work with the utility company and client to find out if alternative arrangements for payment can be made.
As with all of our services, our goal is not to give a handout, but to give a helping hand. Although we fully understand the financial difficulties individuals and families regularly face, our mission is about helping people become less dependent on outside resources to meet their basic needs.
